Built in 1904 the Lauder Hotel was originally the Lauder Railway Hotel and has a proud history of serving this area. In 1960 when rail services dwindled, the building was turned 180 degrees and moved to the opposite side of the section, facing the main road, which is where it sits today, snug between the Otago Central Rail Trail and State Highway 85 at Lauder. Work continues to return the hotel to its Edwardian heritage.
Owned by Vicki and Derek (Knobby), the hotel stocks a fine selection of beers, with local craft beers from Manuherekia and Ferris Road Breweries on tap, plus Emersons, Speights and DB to name a few. As Knobby is a qualified winemaker there’s an excellent selection of local wines and great wine glasses! Free pool and darts will entertain you or enjoy lively and interesting conversations with locals. The wonderful Espresso coffee is roasted here in Otago and the water is great too! Lunch and dinner menu’s offer fresh healthy salads, hand-made pizza, succulent fish fillets and the best 300gram Rib Eye Steak in the region. We are a family friendly business and have a large toy box available for children.
With the Central Otago Rail Trail on our doorstep, we are the perfect stop-over point on your journey or a great base from which to explore the Poolburn Gorge and other Central Otago localities. The Hotels 3 bedrooms offer comfortable accommodation for up to 6 people. Free tea, green tea & coffee as well as continental breakfast are included in the tariff. Lauder is located in the South Island of New Zealand on the famous Central Otago Rail Trail. It is close to the tourist locations of Queenstown and Wanaka, 5 ski-fields and nearby are numerous vineyards which specialise in Central Otago's reknown Pinot Noir wine.
We have a passion for great food and flavours and pride ourselves on offering really good New Zealand food with great taste and at a reasonable price. We use only free range eggs in our baking and meals and work hard in this age of globalisation to source local products wherever possible. Lunch and Dinner meals change regularly to include seasonal options. Try one of our wonderful home-made desserts – the perfect ending to a great meal.
Our dining room looks out into the enclosed garden which is a wonderful area for alfresco dining or a long cool drink. Great Espresso coffee and baking is available daily. Lunch is served between 12 and 2pm in the Summer, dinners 6pm till 9pm, reservations are appreciated.
